This Coming Sunday

This Sunday, Rev. Dr. Marvin Lance Wiser will be in the pulpit. He will be speaking to us about Sabbath. He says, "In the Bible, God consecrated not a place first, but time." Our culture values staying busy, striving for more, and being all you can be. It may seem incongruous to dedicate time to rest and renewal, but one of the commandments asks us to do just that. Rev. Wiser will discuss how Jesus embodied rest and how we can integrate this practice into our daily lives. His sermon title is "The Rhythm, Not the Reward."

Rev. Dr. Marvin Lance Wiser serves as Senior Minister and Executive Director at Eden United Church of Christ in Cherryland, CA, where he leads a vibrant, bilingual congregation deeply engaged in community-based ministry, migrant empowerment, and faith-rooted justice work. Pastor Marvin also teaches at Berkeley School of Theology and lives in the Eden Area with his bicultural, intergenerational family. He is also a coffee roaster who enjoys travel and jazz, and holds a deep appreciation for Mexican culture and cuisine. In 2024, he and Eden Church received the Lilly Endowment National Clergy Renewal Grant.
