Making a Difference

As we look forward to celebrating Jesus who became man that we might learn of God’s love and compassion, we might think of those who need our compassion especially during these cold, wet days and nights of December. Over 50 years ago, UCH was one of the founding churches who saw the need to join with other churches to provide care and support for our unhoused family members.  That was the beginning of South Hayward Parish (SHP).

Perhaps you would like to actively participate in that vision.  Here are a few ideas of how you can do that:  drop off used/clean grocery bags at SHP, or help fill the bags with groceries received (donated by various sources in the area), or be a greeter as people enter the shelter, or prepare or help serve one of the meals for 18-20 people, or wash and dry the bath towels, or help prepare breakfast, etc. Just call SHP (510-785-3663) and ask what is needed.   May you discover enriching ways to reach out in compassion especially during this Advent Season.

Winter Shelter

  • SHP is a year-round shelter for up to 18 folks to sleep safely at night. We also serve dinner and a bagged breakfast in the morning. Please call ahead of time to check availability.    

Food Pantry

  • Our pantry serves over 700 families per week with groceries. At the end of 2022 we switched to walk-up offerings on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays 1PM-4

  • Tiny Homes

  • We are working to bring more housing to South Hayward by adding up to 10 tiny homes on our campus! For more information, click here.

Resource Center

Mail Services

  • Those who do not have a place for important mail to be delivered, may use the SHP address after filling out a few forms. Please call for more information at (510) 785-3663.

Social Services

  • SHP partners with several social services agencies to help provide services to our community members like dental and housing help.
