Scripture Seekers Bible Study

You’all know Bible Study is one of my favorite Minister & Teacher things And I’m excited that Scripture Seeker’s Bible Study Resumes on September 5 2019 at 5:30 in the Ross Blue Room!  We will be immersing ourselves in the Gospel of Luke- both in Bible Study and Worship throughout the fall and early winter. Luke is an especially relevant Gospel for us right now as we open ourselves more to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, make big decisions for the future of UCH, and wrestle with the costs of discipleship as we stand in the values of Jesus and confront the evils of injustice and empire in our community and nation in the present moment. Join us for what will be a thought provoking, educational, and lively conversation about context, scripture, and current events! I look forward to our life-giving conversations on coming Thursday evenings! – Rev. Jeanne

September 5, 2019, Thursday, 5:30, Ross Blue Room.  Laying the Foundation: Tonight, we will look at the sources, context, and structure of Luke’s Gospel, and at the 8 things Luke is really into (that we will need to watch for) as we study together. We will talk about scriptural authority and wrangle a bit with “The Synoptic Problem” Our Scripture Reading tonight is: Luke 1: 1-4, and we will also skim the Birth and Infancy Narratives (Luke 1:5-2:53) and identify themes. (We will return to those for more in depth exploration as we move into Advent.)  Join us as we lay the foundation for our conversation!
