"Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don't give up." -- Anne Lamott

This week we begin our journey through the Season of Advent. Advent is a time of waiting and preparation for the Light of Christ to be born in us. It's a time of gestation, and is a prelude to the Winter Solstice, which is ironically the darkest time of our year. Darkness is something that doesn't tend to create hope in us- instead it often brings up fear, grief, and sadness. But spiritual wise woman Anne Lamott has the audacity to suggest that "Hope begins in the dark." Is she kidding you might ask? No. I don't think so. And so it is here- in the dark- we will begin our Advent Journey.  Each Sunday of Advent we will take on a different aspect of this "stubborn" hopeful wisdom. This Sunday we will talk about the spiritual practice of waiting, and the wisdom and challenges it brings up for us. Chris Leahy will tell her story about waiting, the Choir will sing, and we will share Holy Communion and make room for the wisdom that shows up as we wait stubbornly in the dark together. I am looking forward to this Advent journey with you- Join us as we give birth to the Christ light together. -Rev. Jeanne
